Nocenti, Annie (1957 - )
American journalist, filmmaker, teacher, comic book writer and editor
Ann Nocenti was nominated for an Eisner in 1988 for her run on Daredevil, illustrated primarily by John Romita Jr. She is also known for her critically-acclaimed graphic novel The Seeds, with art by David Aja (2022), published by Dark Horse/Berger Books. Nocenti created such Marvel characters as Longshot, Mojo, Spiral, Blackheart, Bullet and Typhoid Mary, all of which went on to be in films, video games, animations and TV shows. She was an editor at Marvel in the 1980s, including a four-year stint as editor of Uncanny X-Men and The New Mutants (written by Chris Claremont).
Nocenti is noted for her outspoken political views, including but not limited to animal rights and environmentalism, which characterized her 4-year run on Daredevil (#236 11/86, #238-291 1/88-7/90).
In Marvel Comics Presents #150 (1994), Nocenti introduced Jessie Drake, a teenaged mutant, who revealed in issue #151 that she was transgender, marking her Marvel's first transgender mutant, and hero.
Nocenti has written for DC Comics, Dark Horse, Oni, IDW, and more. She received an Inkpot Award in 2018 and was inducted into the Will Eisner Hall of Fame in 2023.
